RECIPES FOR DYEING

My own guide to exploring natural sourced dyeing

Recipes for Dyeing is a condensed recordation I put together of some dye recipes I’ve experimented with throughout my creative journey so I can look back and re-use them. I explore an eco-friendlier approach to dyeing by substituting chemicals and using to-hand ingredients and natural sources that combined, create alternative processes for dye that are less harmful to the environment.

My journey into natural dyeing started during the first COVID-19 lockdown, where I was away from university studio and facilities. This prompted me to explore a DIY approach to dyeing at home with sources I had nearby, appreciating the traditional craftsmanship of dyeing. The idea of these recordings is to show the versatile potential of natural dyeing and can be easily sourced at home. Improvised sources can be adapted and developed to create various outcomes.
